Something in the air….

04062010 010As we got closer and closer to home you could see the air thicken… at first I thought it was smog, but after we looked a little closer we realized it was the pollen in the air. And now that we are home, we have learned that our local pollen count is over 6000. No wonder my eyes are itching out of my head and my throat is so scratchy!

Curtis Easter

We had a great Easter with the Curtis family in Austin!

Salt Lick Bar-B-Que

Check out this Bar-B-Que Pit at the Salt Lick in Autstin, TX. We stopped off to visit some friends on our way home from our little journey and they took us out to eat at their favorite Bar-B-Que in Texas.

See all the people… now multiply that by ten, and that’s close to how many people were waiting to get inside to eat.

We had a great time visiting while we waited our turn- quite surprisingly it only took about an hour to get a table. (l-r) Lexi, Em and Paul.

The food was awesome and well worth the wait- thanks Paul, Angela, Em & Lexi

Today’s Journey out of AZ, through NM and into TX looked just like the scenery we’ve been seeing over the last several days… that is until this evening.

Joshua Tree National Park

Since Jan and I had to choose an alternate route home- we decided to make the most of it and try to see some new sights. So today we visited Joshua Tree National Park in southern CA. What an awesome site!

Alternate Route…

After a lot of consideration Jan and I have decided to cancel the SLC & NE legs of our trip. When we woke up this morning Donners Pass was in worse shape than it was last night when we went to bed. We both decided it was in our best interest to head south and take an alternate route home. I’m sad that we wont see our friends and family along the way- but I guess that just gives us a good reason to make yet another trip! We are in Barstow, CA right now and trying to decide on the route we will take to continue the trip home.

As we were cruising down HWY 99 today we saw a couple of parachutists coming in for a landing- I grabbed my camera as quick as I could- and of course my timing was perfect- to get a nice shot of the power lines… oh well!

Otherwise the scenery was pretty much the same as it was on our way to Oregon…

Eastward Journey

Our good friend Sue suggested we take CA highway 20 towards Reno- and I have to say it was a beautiful choice. We ran into all different kinds of weather today. We had heavy rain, light rain, sun, heavy rain, sleet, sun, hail, sun….

We are now in Marysville, CA and praying that Donners Pass into Reno is cleared tomorrow… at this time you are required to run with chains… ick!

Redwoods…

03302010 007 Our Journey through the Redwoods was beautiful today (which of course is a given…)
