Fuel Update… 9.29.2008

0929081850 fuel
We are still experiencing a fuel shortage- to the point of some service stations just closing up shop for the time being. This Ingles obviously has no hope of fuel anytime soon…

Time to dry out the sun room!

Time to dry out the sun room!Time to dry out the sun room!I’m seriously having doubts where home improvement services are concerned. We have spent the last several months trying to get one company or another out to the house to make repairs. And when they finally do make an appointment with us- they don’t show up. I’m really starting to wonder what the problem is. We live a good ways from Greenville- But we’re not out in the middle of the boonies or anything. We had an appointment for some roofers to come over early this morning to give us an estimate on a roof repair. They finally made it around 5pm.

Some time ago, Jan had 3 rooms added on to the back of the house- a sun room, bathroom and computer room. Well it seems they didn’t do a very good job roofing the add-on, and now we have a leak. We have no idea how long it has leaked- We travel a lot and hadn’t noticed any leaks until this summer- when we noticed some of the hardwood flooring is ruined. We now have half a dozen drip pans in the room. If it rains 1/2 inch outside- we end up with 4 inches inside. We got a pretty good estimate today, and will get a few more before we select our roofers. That is assuming we can actually get anyone else to come over…  (I know the photo of Jan really doesn’t have anything to do with the post- I just want to see those blue eyes..)

Going, Going,Gone…

Going, Going,Gone...
Going, Going,Gone...We’ve been experiencing a shortage of fuel here in the Southeast since (and shortly before) Hurricane Ike hit the Gulf Coast nearly 2 weeks ago. Up until today, we still had fuel in our area, but we were limited to 87 grade unleaded. This evening we drove to town to get a bite to eat, and we needed get fuel before we could make the journey back home- We went to several gas stations here in Travelers Rest only to find plastic bags on all the pump handles- The only place in town with fuel was Wal-Mart. Thankfully the line wasn’t too long… we probably only had to wait about 10 minutes. I’ve heard reports of people waiting in line for an hour or more- only to be turned away when the tanks went dry. The shortage is so bad, apparently an area community college has suspended classes for the week.

Say Cheese…

A friend of mine back in SLC (Hi Shawn) wants me to take a picture of Spooky’s face so she can put it on some coasters- he has a cute round face-and it would work perfect… but every time I try to get his photo- this is what I always see…

Neighbors….

09222008 008-1This is Bonnie- she belongs to our neighbor Keith, “the redneck”. Now before you jump to Keith’s defense (because I called him a redneck)! Keep in mind, he is a self proclaimed redneck- not just a redneck- but a redneck from hell! (his own words, not mine.) Anyway- Bonnie, who is not a redneck, just a good loving dog, has been a good neighbor to us. She only barks when there is really something to bark about. And she is always happy to see us. She comes running over to the fence with her tail wagging ready to greet us each day- perhaps it’s because we give her a bone every time we’re out there… or perhaps she just loves us. Either way, Bonnie is a good neighbor!

Summer is Falling…

09222008 016

It’s official… today is the first day of Fall. The days are getting shorter- and the nights longer. In a way, it’s kind of depressing to me- we are ushering in colder weather- the tree’s will all change and lose their leaves…

Don’t get me wrong- I think fall foliage is one of the most beautiful times of the year. But I love the spring day when things become alive again- and the temperatures rise!

I’m one of those people that need the daily sunlight to feel good. I guess I need to buy a bunch of Vitamin E…

The season changes are a lot milder here in the south, compared to my home state of Nebraska- and Utah where I had spent 10 years of my life. But if I had my way- it would be 78 degrees year-round. I mean really- who needs the changing seasons…

Reflections….

09222008 006

BullWinkle loves to sit in her tent and look out the sunroom windows at all the trees and the lake. I can’t say I blame her any- it’s a beautiful sight! Perhaps I should spend some more time in that room reading and reflecting…! I know this image isn’t “technically” a good photo. But I like the affect of the reflection across her face, especially the trees in her right eye. Even though this photo is flawed in a lot of ways- It still appeals to me, and is probably one of my favorite images of BullWinkle.

Chilly September…

09222008 008

It’s amazing how chilly 70 degrees feels in September compared to 70 degrees in April. In April temps like this feel so warm… almost hot, but in September it chills me to the bone. I’m not a huge fan of fall and winter. Jan on the other hand loves the cooler temps. I would rather have the warmth surrounding me. Keeping me toasty warm.

Cruising in Style…

We met our friend Dean for lunch, and then he took us out for a spin in his Pontiac Grand Ville Convertible around the Greenville area. It was a nice day for a drive!
