duck, duck, GOOSE…

So… If you ever wonder how I spend my evenings… Well, It’s usually not like tonight. Our friend Linda works as a Media Specialist (Librarian) at a local elementary school and she is dressing like Mother Goose for Halloween. She needed a stuffed goose for a prop, but we haven’t been able to find one locally, so… I made a paper mache goose. It still needs to be painted, but at least it does resemble the body of a goose….
Tomorrow- Thursday, is Linda’s birthday! Happy Birthday Linda. We love ya!

Campbell's Covered Bridge…

Campbell's Covered Bridge...

It was beautiful today, so Jan and I took a little ride over to Campbell’s Covered Bridge. As you can see by the sign, it is the only remaining covered bridge in South Carolina. It crosses the Beaverdam creek. (right) This is all thats left of a grist mill that had been operated Just a few yards up the creek.
(On a side note: They no longer allow auto traffic across the bridge.)

G.I. Jan The top photo, by Diana Sugg appeared in the Spartanburg Herald-Journal in 1988. Jan was training with the South Carolina Army National Guard in Fort Gordan, GA. The story was about mothers in the military, away from home on Mothers Day.
The photo to the left was taken 1990 in Saudi Arabia, during the Persian Gulf War.

The bottom photo was taken in Greenville, SC during a welcome home parade after the Persian Gulf War in 1991.

Good News… Bad News…

Good News... Bad News...
The good news … The siding guy came out today and fixed the hole left in the side of our house when the power was jerked off during the storm in August. The bad news… Apparently no one wants to take responsibility for the pipe that was broke when we had our power buried almost 2 weeks ago. When it happened, Blue Ridge Water told Blue Ridge Electric not to fill in the trench, they (BRW) would be back to determine what the pipe was, fix it and fill in the trench. Well this morning BRW finally came back out, after we’ve called then half a dozen times, and declared that none of their guys ever spoke to BRE, and it’s not their pipe or their responsibility. So now we have a broken pipe and 6 feet of trench…

Brain cramp…

Earlier today I was working a Kakuro puzzle. Stubby decided to help me, but I guess he fell victim to a brain cramp and had to take a nap…

Toy Run 2008…

Jan and I, along with our friend Ken and Elaine and Mike, a couple from our Honda Group, participated in the Travelers Rest Police Department Toy Run. Approx 200 motorcycles joined the ride. Each rider brings a toy- and it will be donated to a needy child in the Northern Greenville Area for Christmas.Toy Run 2008...

This is our 2nd year to participate, and it was a great ride. Most of the motorcycles were Harleys & “crotch rockets”, which resulted in a noisy, but enjoyable day…

Head in the rafters…

Head in the rafters... I’ve spent some time the last couple of days wiring lights and an outlet in our carport. I’m almost done! Jan has been playing plumber and fixed a leaky facet handle in the shower… feels good getting things done. (Thanks Sue for the nifty drill- sure makes the job easier!- Happy Birthday by the way!!)

Morning light…

Morning light...This past week Jan and I have had to get up much earlier than normal so we can drive the nieghbor boy to school. The ride consists of 10.5 miles through the countryside. I have to say the morning light sure does make things pretty around here!

Mutant Ninja Squirrel…

Squirrels are constantly stealing sunflower seeds out of our bird feeders. They are all suppose to be squirrel proof- but as you can see, apparently they’re not!

Mutant Ninja Squirrel...

We really don’t mind much that the squirrels eat the seed- and this little guy kinda broke my heart! He has either been attacked by another animal or shot- it looks like a bullet hole to me. He has been around the last couple of days eating and hopefully he will be OK. I know it’s just a little squirrel- but I don’t want to see anything suffer!

Undergound Power…. Underground Pipe

Blue Ridge Power came out today to bury the main power line to our house- that will eliminate having the power ripped from the side of the house as it was in early August.

However, even though all the utilities came out and marked their buried lines, there was one that wasn’t marked…. and guess what- we found it… Not only found it- but broke it as well. We have no idea what it’s for- it’s a water pipe thats not under pressure- and isn’t the sewer pipe. Blue Ridge Water came out and told the crew to leave that part uncovered- and they would return at some point to determine what it is, and get it fixed. Hopefully they fill in the rest of the dirt as well..
