I was out shopping at Cablea’s yesterday, and had a reminder of home(South Carolina)…..

Grand Island

Grand Island

I had a good day of driving today (although it was raining the majority of the time)- I’m in Grand Island, NE- right on schedule. Tomorrow I continue the 30- miles on into Ravenna for the funeral. I would have gone on into Ravenna, but I honestly don’t think there are any hotels there. It’s a pretty tiny town.

On the road again….

On the road again....

Well, I’m on the road again. This time however, it’s without Jan. Originally Jan and I were gonna go back to Nebraska to spend Thanksgiving with my family. But now, the trip has been extended so I can go to my Uncles funeral, visit other family members, be with my Grandma on her 94th birthday… the list goes on…  So Jan is at home with the cats- I’m going to miss her, but I’m also excited to visit my family and friends….

On the road again....Taking pictures though my pitted windshield is nowhere near as fun, or colorful as the pictures I get off the back of the trike. Today I traveled through South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois and I am now in St. Charles, Missouri. I have about 550 more miles to go before I get to Grand Island, NE.

This shot is my version of St. Louis, MO- I swear the arch is in there….

On the road again....

Francis Fletcher

I just got word that my uncle Francis died today. He was 90 years old, and the last living sibling of my Grandma’s! As I was growing up, Francis was always a lot of fun- he seemed to enjoy “teasing” us kids in any way he could. Here are some of my fondest memories of Francis:

Francis Fletcher
This photo is at least 30 years old-
It’s the only one I can find
When I was around 6 or 7 years old, we were driving around on his farm- We saw a white tail Jackrabbit- he told me to shoot it-so, I did! After that day, every time I’d see him, he would give me grief about shooting that rabbit. He would tell me how he hadn’t see another one on his land since. My defense, he told me to shoot it! His reply to that: “I didn’t think you’d hit it!”I am blessed/cursed with the famous “Fletcher cowlick”. Francis would always tell me I was standing to close to the cows… and I needed to stop letting them lick my head…

At one point in his life, he looked a lot like Buffalo Bill.

Rest in peace Francis-

Tiny trip…

Jan had an early morning appt at the VA in Asheville this morning- So we rode on up yesterday and spent the night. We’ve been blessed with warm temperatures so we were able to ride the trike. Days that would normally be low to mid 60’s, have been in the upper 70’s. While we were in Asheville we did some Christmas shopping. It’s so unlike me to have almost all my shopping done in early November… Tiny trip...

Finally… It's election day!

I don’t know about you…. but, I am so glad it is finally election day! I have become so tired of this election.Don’t get me wrong- I am ready to see the current administration vacate the premises, but, I’m sick of hearing all the campaign ads slamming each other, I’m tired of hearing uninformed people talk about how Obama is a Muslim and not a real citizen of the USA. I’m tired of hearing that McCain isn’t really a war hero- that he betrayed our country by spilling his guts to the enemy…I’m tired of all the gossip and lies.

All I want to know is:

  • What will you do to improve our economy?
  • What about our health care? (or lack there of)
  • What are you gonna do to correct the energy crisis we are experiencing?
  • What about our troops in Iraq?

Those are some of the issues I care about- I don’t care about the gossip or the hate. Just give me the cold hard facts!

Finally... It's election day!“I’m Lori, and I approve this message!”
Finally... It's election day!
Now that I’m done with my little rant… it was a beautiful day for voting. I only had to wait about 40 minutes to cast my vote and Jan had to wait about an hour (it helps that my last name starts with a letter between L-Z, that line was a lot shorter than the A-K line.

Don’t forget to vote!!

It doesn’t matter who you’re voting for, (well, actually it does matter- but… ) just be sure to get out and vote today!

Abundance of color…

Abundance of color...
Abundance of color... Abundance of color...

We eventually have to rake the leaves!
