Summer Break…

I have the next week off of school- I don’t go back til July 12th. It’s pretty exciting, even if it is a short break!  Yesterday Jan and I went out to mow the back yard- the mower Jan was using was having some technical difficulties so she went inside to call the repair shop, while I used the pushed mower along the hill between us and the lake. If there happened to be anyone watching our webcam at the time they sure got a show! It seems we have a yellow jacket nest in the yard, and I guess I mowed right over the top of it. The next thing I knew I was being attacked by a swarm of seething mad yellow jackets. Thankfully none of the neighbors were out and about at the time, since I stripped right down on the front porch trying to get them all off of me. Luckily, I only got stung twice- which is 2 times too many for me. The night got much better when Jan and I went with Ken and Linda to a local dinner theater to watch the play “Sanford in Love”. I think most everyone in the nation knows about our Governor, Mark Sanford, and his sexual exploits with a Brazilian lady. The cast did a great job poking fun at Sanford!

Today Jan and I took a trip to Atlanta and watched a Braves game (thanks to our neighbors Eric and Vicki for the tickets). Tomorrow will be a nice day here at the house with Ken and Linda for our 4th of July holiday. We’ll have to see what else we can get into over the next homework free week!

Another great Braves game- Tonight we had a lot of fun watching one of the ushers dancing the night away… I tell you what, that man has a lot of energy. He was like that ALL night long!

Braves: 8 Giants: 1As you can tell, we followed our diet to a tee! The only plus side to getting the funnel cake… we had to walk completely around the ball field to find it! So hopefully we burned off all the calories we ate!

We have another game tomorrow night, so we have to find a way to spend the day in Atlanta. The only plan we have is lunch at Benihana’s. Yea!

The Braves Win!
Braves- 7 Pirates- 6After 15 Innings and 5 Hours...

The top photo was suppose to be to capture the celebration after David Ross grounding a bases loaded single to bring in the winning run… but as you can see, that didn’t work out real well from my vantage point. by the time I was able to get a clear shot of the celebration the mob had pretty much settled down. This win gave Bobby Cox his 2000th win with the Braves. He is 1 of only 4 managers to have accomplished this feat.

Jan & I have been trying to figure out where we could go for a short little trip- you see, the last 2 years on May 20th we have been away from home. Last year we started out on our 5 week motorcycle trip, and in 2007 we were in Oregon! Neither one of use could really decide what we should do this year- that is until about one-o’clock this afternoon when I asked Jan- “How about going to a Braves game?” It took her all of about 5 seconds to agree. This was my first MLB game- and it’s definitely one to remember! I have a feeling we will probably be making a habit of coming to the games. We had a blast! Braves: 12 Rockies: 4

above: During the 4th inning- Rockies Pitcher Jorge De La Rosa pitches to Braves Jeff Francoeur. De La Rosa gave up 9 runs in that inning. During the 6th inning Braves infielder Omar Infante broke his left hand when he was hit by a pitch from Rockies Manny Corpas. Ouch!

Day 6 Road Trip- May 25, 2008

6-1a

One of my favorite things about traveling on the motorcycle, is how friendly other riders are! The majority of them wave at us as we pass- even those on the other side of the interstate. Not only are the riders friendly, but so are a lot of drivers. We have had a handful of times where people will take pictures or videos of us as we pass- A majority of the truckers wave at us as well. If Jan & I were in a car- no one would ever take notice- But thats not the case on the trike.

6-02I’ve seen so many abandoned places along the road on this trip. This place is west of Albuquerque.

Now I would like to introduce you to “Whipper”. She is the most awesome antenna buddy.

6-04

Yesterday we bought some new seat cushions- Oh my goodness my butt feels so much better today. Amazing what a little gel cushion can do for a girls back side.

6-05We spent a few hours of our day listening to the Atlanta Braves vs the Arizona Diamond Back on our XM Radio. Unfortuneately our beloved Braves pretty much fell on their faces and lost to the Diamond Backs 9-3. Chipper Jones was on the DL- the Braves usually lose when he’s not playing- all I have to say is “Get Better Chipper!”

6-06

I think we have seen more trains today than we have all the other days of the trip put together.

6-07Our day started out absolutely beautiful. It was a bit cool- but the winds were calm- that is for the first 150 miles- after that- we had high crosswinds again- I’m starting to sound like a broken record. I hope tomorrow brings us calmer winds. PLEASE WIND GODS!

6-08

Entering Arizona- although by this picture you can’t tell- I was all set to get a photo of the “Welcome to Arizona” sign- when a gust of wind hit us- and shifted the angle of my camera by about 45 degrees- I completely missed the shot. I did however manage to get a shot of the sign directing us to the visitors center! I was so bummed out about missing the acutal sign- I almost asked Jan to turn around!

6-11Skies over Arizona. As you can tell I like taking cloud photos!

Self portrait in the back of Jan’s helmet. You can see how I’m all bundled up- I have on gloves and about 4 layers of clothes. It got pretty chilly going through the Flagstaff, AZ area. For the last 2 days they have been receiving snow! I’m so glad we didn’t have to drive through it! Our day left us in Kingman, AZ- We drove 470 miles. It feels good to get a few miles behind us. Now we only have about 990 miles left to go. OH MY! If all goes well we should make our destination on Wednesday! It will sure be good to see all our friends, the ocean and the redwoods.
