High Country…

High Country...Well- we took off for another short adventure. I had never been to Boone, NC-( named after Daniel Boone) and considering how hot it’s been here in the Greenville area, we thought it would be a good idea to head up to the “High Country” of the Blue Ridge Mountains to escape the heat.

High Country...

As we were nearly to Boone, I saw this sign for the Grandfather Mountain. After reading some brochures on it- we decided it was a “must see”.
High Country...

At 5,964 feet, it’s the tallest mountain in the Blue Ridge Range (if you look close enough, you see the face of a Grandfather on the ridge of the mountain)- it also sports a mile high, 228-foot swinging suspension bridge that gives you 360 degree views of the mountains. Since we got to Boone after the mountain park closed- it was the first thing on our agenda for Thursday morning. Unfortunately, When we got there Thursday- they told us they were not permitting motorcycle at the top because of the high winds- And we should come back the next day… But since Jan had an appt at the VA in Asheville Friday morning, we weren’t able to see the mountain… Guess that gives us a great reason to return to Boone.

High Country...

After our failed attempt to see the Grandfather Mountain- we headed to Bristol, TN- We passed the Bristol Motor Speedway. Boy is it big!

We passed, ever so slightly through a portion of Virginia

High Country...

We then headed over to Shady Valley, TN on US 421 and rode “The Snake”. It’s 12 miles containing 489 curves and 3 mountains. It’s quite the ride!

High Country...After Jan’s appt- we drove the back roads home… All I can say is I sure do love living here!
