Local "Attractions"

Today was a beautiful day for a ride- we took out with no real destination in mind, but ended up stopping to see two area “attractions”. Hooker Falls, a 20 ft falls along the Little River in North Carolina. (The best part about the falls is the fact it makes for a nice swimming hole.) We also stopped at Bald Rock in South Carolina. The View from Bald Rock is quite awesome. to the left you can see Paris Mountain, which is near Travelers Rest, SC and to the right you can see Table Rock State Park.

Taking it easy…

Taking it easy...Today Jan and I took a little ride down to Greenwood Lake to visit with our friends Barb and Trudi- they live in southern South Carolina but are camping out near us (Ok- so it’s actually a 2 hour drive away). It was a nice way to spend our day. We both really needed a relaxing visit with friends.

Rainy Bet…

We set off for a little ride today- we were gonna head up to the Rosman, NC area and enjoy the mountains for awhile. Shortly after we left we came across some pretty ornery looking clouds- I asked Jan if she wanted to bet on whether we would end up wet or not. She agreed- I bet we would get wet- she bet that we wouldn’t…. 05022009 003

Fewer H2O Woes…

04182009 016 We took a little ride over to Georgia today. It was quite warm, and to be perfectly honest- Wonderful! The one thing that was quite evident by the ride, was the increased water levels of the area lakes. (Right) Lake Keowee, which for the last few years was showing very significant signs of drought, was looking more like normal today.

Wildcat Branch Falls (which is just down the road from us) was flowing quite well. Usually when we pass by, it’s more of a trickle than actual falls. Just a month ago, we were in an “Extreme” drought, we are now listed as “Moderate” after having received around 10 inches of rain in recent weeks…

Tomorrow is the first day of Spring.

I love this time of year. The weather brightens up- and everything comes to life. Jan and I have been taking advantage of the warmer weather the last few days by going out for rides.

Here Comes the Sun…

It has been extremely quiet for Jan and I this last month or so. It’s been chilly and rainy so we’ve mostly been staying around home reading our books and such. But today was absolutely beautiful. The temps around 70 and dry.. We took off for a short little ride into town. As I write that, I wonder, why should I blog about riding into town… well, because it was a beautiful day- and we haven’t done much else lately.

12182008 017 Every time we pass this lot on Highway 25, I think of “Uncle Mose”. If he is ever in need of some used school buses (for Chief School Bus, out of Omaha) he ought to consider coming to South Carolina and get a few of these. While we were out and about we stopped off at this colorful little shop and did some shopping…

Tiny trip…

Jan had an early morning appt at the VA in Asheville this morning- So we rode on up yesterday and spent the night. We’ve been blessed with warm temperatures so we were able to ride the trike. Days that would normally be low to mid 60’s, have been in the upper 70’s. While we were in Asheville we did some Christmas shopping. It’s so unlike me to have almost all my shopping done in early November… Tiny trip...

Happy Foot…

10102008 083 In the midst of all the reconstruction yesterday- Jan took the trike to Charles for a new front tire- We had a new tire put on earlier this year- in February as a matter of fact. And we were both quite surprised at how bald it had become in less than 9 months. But… after looking at our paperwork we realized in that short amount of time we have been approximately 17,000 miles- Can you imagine 17,000 miles on a trike in less than 9 months- awesome huh? We went 6,739 miles on our cross country trip- leaving over 10,000 miles on our smaller trips and local rides. 17,000 miles doesn’t seem like a lot for the life of a tire, but a trike creates a lot of wear on that front tire- you can’t lean into the turns, so all the wear is in one spot… anyway- We now have a safe ride…
